100 WORD

With their deep Afro-Brazilian groove and soulful Middle Eastern roots, Saravá has stepped up to be an original act with a defining presence of fresh acoustic sounds from the streets of Tel Aviv.

At the core is the trio, led by guitarist Dudi Shaul whose  compositions on the Spanish guitar are recreating a new wave of Israeli folk music. Together with hybrid-drummer Ben Ben Franklin and bassist Daniel Harlev, Saravá, which means ‘the force of nature’, but also has hidden within it the blues of the desert and the strength of jewish feminine spirit, is rising on a global scale.

Saravá was conceived when Ben Ben Franklin heard the sounds of Samba coming from a busker on the street, following the sounds led him to a gig with Dudi Shaul where they connected and soon began to play together. Their explorations of their own culture through the language of Afro Samba led them to an intimate and exciting partnership with acclaimed vocalist LALA Tamar who in 2019 joined forces for a short tour and week-long artistic residency in Essaouira, Morroco working with local Gnawa musicians and putting on a sold out show for over 400 people. Currently Saravá is working towards recording their debut album due to be released in 2020.

Known for his soulful-melodious playing and passion for Afro-Samba, Dudi Shaul is a guitarist, composer, and teacher who has developed his own unique voice on the Spanish guitar. He explores the musical paths travelled between North Africa, Brazil and ancient Babylon, taking his playing beyond borders to a place that feels like home. With ancestry in Iraq and Poland, Dudi was born in Israel, grew up in Australia and is now based in Jaffa, south of Tel Aviv.

Ben Ben Franklin, is an Israeli drummer/percussionist. Born and raised in the culturally diverse environment that is Tel Aviv, and receiving a jazz education from an early age he mixes musical traditions from around the world into a new approach to percussive sound and groove making. He is the rhythmic anchor of several bands that are on the rise on the international music scene, that all have a great passion for creating music that is as global as much as it is local.

Daniel Harlev is an international upright bass player and composer.

In search for his personal sense of freedom he found a very deep connection to jazz music and composition, inspired by the African and Psychedelic music genres and the works of Coltrane, Mingus bach and many more.

Daniel is also founder of the Israeli Jazz artist collective - Speak Thru.
